Xenia - Corals for beginners in the reef hobby

In contrast to stony corals, Xenia do not form a solid skeleton of calcium carbonate. They are therefore more tolerant of fluctuations in calcium concentration and alkalinity. Xenia are perfect candidates for beginners in the reef hobby as well as for tank owners who do not (want to) pay meticulous attention to their water parameters.

A word of warning: Xenia soft corals grow well

Xenia can reproduce quickly under good conditions and are therefore useful consumers of excess nutrients. This makes them particularly suitable for initial stocking or for reef tanks rich in fish. In order to control the propagation, it is best to place the Xenia on a separate small stone standing in the sand a little away from the rest of the reef structure. Xenia do not like fine sand, so you can limit their reproduction in this way.

Increased nutrient values? No problem for Xenia!

Clove polyps cope well with increased nutrient concentrations. Phosphate concentrations of up to 0.2 mg/l and nitrate concentrations of up to 20 mg/l are regarded as quite acceptable. They are therefore ideal for a new set up.

Verbesserung beim Ableger
