So-called Designerfish are variations of one or closely related species. Through crossbreeding, selections and mutations, marine fish with a wide variety of color variants are obtained. Such deviations also occur in nature - but are extremely rare. Thanks to aquaculture of marine fish, the variants can be specifically produced. However, usually only a certain percentage has the desired variation. That is why some variations are less common on the market and their availability generally limited.
If you want to obtain a pair, you do not necessarily have to choose the same Designerfish. You can also choose different variants. But in any case, make sure that the two fish belong to the same species. As an example you can easily combine a Black Gladiator with a Domino, because both variants belong to the same species (Amphiprion ocellaris).
