Signs of high nutrient levels

In addition to the measured phosphate and nitrate values, darkened corals or increased algae growth in the tank as well as on the glass indicate elevated nutrient levels. When judging "too high", the ratio of nitrate to phosphate must also be taken into account. Ideally this should be 100:1, for example 5 mg/l nitrate and 0.05 mg/l phosphate. An unfavourable ratio can often have a more negative effect than increased values in the correct ratio. Therefore, always assess the nutrient values in relation to each other and in connection with the appearance and behaviour of your animals in the aquarium.

Ideally dose the concentrate at the beginning of the lighting phase. Increased bacterial growth can lead to increased oxygen consumption - therefore dose very conservatively or additionally aerate the aquarium. Moreover, keep an eye on the nutrient levels, especially phosphate, so that there is no limitation. It is not recommended to use this product if there is an existing cyanobacteria problem, as their reproduction can also be promoted by carbon.
