Leather corals - Corals for beginners in the reef hobby

Unlike stony corals, soft corals do not form a solid skeleton of calcium carbonate. They are therefore more tolerant of fluctuations in calcium concentration and alkalinity. Soft corals are perfect candidates for beginners in the reef hobby as well as for hobbyists who do not (want to) pay meticulous attention to their water parameters.

The tentacles of the mushroom coral like it turbulent - ideal is a changing and sometimes strong water flow.

High nutrient levels? No problem for soft corals!

Leather corals cope well with increased nutrient concentrations. Phosphate concentrations of up to 0.2 mg/l and nitrate concentrations of up to 20 mg/l are regarded as quite acceptable. They are therefore not only ideal for a freshly set up or small reef aquarium, but also for a fairly heavy stocked fish reef tank.
