Zooplankton in larval culture

The supply of zooplankton is an essential component in the cultivation of marine organisms. For very large larvae such as those of clownfish or Banggai cardinalfish, freshly hatched Artemia or enriched Brachionus as a food source can already lead to success. For other species or higher survival rates, smaller zooplankton such as Parvocalanus are indispensable.

Parvocalanus crassirostris

The nauplii of Parvocalanus crassirostris are a particularly nutritious food source for fish larvae due to their high content of unsaturated fatty acids. With their small size (< 50 µm) and a soft body without spiny appendages, they are perfect for very small fish mouths (such as the larvae of mandarin fish or tangs).
