More Information

Tropic Marin Phos-Feed supplies corals in a targeted manner. Since the particles can be used almost exclusively by symbiotic bacteria in corals, the phosphate ends up exactly where it is needed.

Particulate phosphate vs. phosphate solution

The phosphate supply in particulate form is much safer and more targeted than in dissolved form. The phosphate is "packaged" in particles and can be absorbed by polyps. With the help of symbiotic bacteria, these particles are finally broken down ("unpacked") and the phosphate is made available directly to the coral. Studies have shown that the particulate phosphate supply is significantly more effective in terms of coral growth than the dissolved variant. In addition, a particulate diet also has a positive effect on the appearance of polyps, as they are challenged according to their function (particle capture).

In contrast, when supplying dissolved phosphate, there can be very high scatter losses - especially if the aquarium is initially only sparsely populated with corals. Dissolved inorganic phosphate can, for example, be absorbed directly by algae or precipitate on rocks and substrate. Possible consequences are increased algae growth and the formation of phosphate deposits.

That is why the particulate phosphate supply is particularly useful when starting an aquarium.

Recommended use of Phos-Feed

Phos-Feed can be used at any time of day or night. Since the application makes the water slightly cloudy and in order to take advantage of the corals' nocturnal polyp opening, Phos-Feed should preferably be dosed around the time the lighting is turned off. A temporary clouding of the aquarium water is normal.

Start with a daily dosage of 1 ml (small measuring spoon) of Phos-Feed per 200 l of aquarium water. To do this, half fill a container with approx. 200 ml of reverse osmosis water and add the Phos-Feed. Mix the powder and water well by stirring. Pour the suspension into the aquarium's current and rinse the cup with aquarium water. If after four weeks the phosphate concentration in the aquarium has not reached between 0.05 mg/l and 0.15 mg/l, double the dosage to 2 ml (large measuring spoon) per 200 l. The maximum dosage of 4 ml per 200 l should not be exceeded.

Suspended Phos feed can also be added via a dosing pump. In this case, place the dosing container on a magnetic stirrer so that the Phos feed does not settle.
