Regularly adding phytoplankton to the saltwater aquarium benefits corals and other filter feeders in both a direct and indirect way. The polyp extension and water quality are improved and the microfauna in the reef tank is continuously promoted. Phytoplankton is also indispensable in the rearing of larvae and the cultivation of marine organisms.
Phytoplankton is the collective term for a variety of microalgae that float freely in the water column and carry out photosynthesis. Microalgae are the basis of the food web and very important in terms of supplying all marine life with unsaturated fatty acids.
