Anemones (Actinaria) are probably well known to you through their association with clownfish. But in fact only a few species of anemones are suitable for socializing with these fish. Certain representatives of the genera Entacmaea, Heteractis and Stichodactyla are regarded as true host and partner anemones. For a small reef aquarium, the so-called Rock (Phymanthus sp.) and MinMax anemones (Stichodactyla) are particularly suitable. They stay small, are very colorful and do not migrate much. All corals offered by Coralaxy are aquacultured.
Buying other corals - our tip:
Start with organ pipe corals or zooxanthellate gorgonians! Both are easy to care for, suitable for beginners and bring life to the aquarium - without any stress.
What belongs to the “Other corals” category?
- Anemones - The lively free spirits with a clownfish guarantee
- Pipe corals - Easy to care for, robust, perfect for beginners
- Gorgonians - The graceful dancers in the water, from delicate to eye-catching
Keeping & care: What you should look out for
Gorgonians - graceful flow lovers
These beautifully branched coral species need one thing above all: movement!
- Non-zooxanthellate species: plenty of flow & targeted feeding
- Zooxanthellate gorgonians: Light-loving & relatively uncomplicated
Tip: Place gorgonians in a well-circulated, well-lit area - they will thank you with great growth and elegant movement.
Anemones - beautiful, but with a mind of their own
They are not only pretty, but also... let's say... independent.
- Caution: Anemones can migrate - so think carefully about where to place them!
- Less flow, but good light - that's how they feel at home
- Popular with clownfish - and sometimes feared by neighboring corals
Tip: Don't forget to protect your pump! Anemones on the move + unprotected pump = not a good combination.
