Pseudochromis springeri is a colourful and robust dottyback. Its dark blue, almost black, body with bright blue stripes makes it an attractive addition to reef tanks. The animals offered here come from captive breeding and are particularly adaptable. This fish also eats bristle worms and can therefore contribute to natural control in the aquarium.

Pseudochromis springeri - a marine fish for reef tanks from 120 litres upwards

Bluestriped dottybacks can be kept in aquariums from 120 litres. It feels particularly at home in pairs from 150 litres or in groups from 300 litres. While it usually remains peaceful towards other fish species, it shows a certain territorial behaviour towards conspecifics. Caution is advised with small shrimps, such as Thor amboinensis, as they can be seen as potential prey.

Bluestriped Dottyback can change sex

Like many dootybacks, Pseudochromis springeri is a bidirectional sex changer. Juveniles are initially female, but the most dominant specimen can change into a male. In groups or pairs, the largest animal usually develops into a male. In order to ensure a balanced social structure, we take care to offer different sizes when selecting the fish - however, we cannot guarantee the sex.

Feeding Pseudochromis springeri

This species is not picky and accepts a variety of foods. Frozen and live food such as Artemia and Mysis are on the menu, but flake and granulated food are also well accepted. It also eats bristle worms and can therefore contribute to the natural control of these species.

Captive-bred instead of wild-caught

Our Pseudochromis springeri are 100% captive-bred. They are robust, healthy, and perfectly suited for keeping in saltwater aquariums. Captive-bred fish exhibit less territorial behavior and are adapted to aquarium conditions. Through short transport routes and sustainable breeding, we support environmentally friendly marine aquarium keeping – choose responsible breeding!
