Crusty coral with pink tissue and bright green polyps.

The normal offshoot measures about 3 cm (round offshoot stone), the XL version 7.5 x 7.5 cm (square, flat plate).

We generally show the coral frags under different
light settings:

  • Top view blue light - 20,000 K
  • Top view daylight - 12,000 K
  • Reef tank shot without filter
  • Reef tank shot with orange filter (= filter shot)
  • Variation of frags
  • optional: picture of the broodstock

When taking a filter shot, we deliberately choose not to use too much blue light in order to display the colors as naturally as possible and as one would perceive them without filter glasses. Please note that deviations can still occur due to certain display and lighting settings and subjective perception.

In terms of size, you can use the light grid plate to help you: one square is 1.6 x 1.6 cm. Our frag plugs measure 2 or 3 cm in diameter.

Briareum - Corals for beginners in marine aquariums

In contrast to stony corals, Briareum does not form a solid skeleton made of calcium carbonate. This coral is therefore more tolerant of fluctuations in calcium concentration and KH values. Briareum corals are perfect candidates for both beginners in reef aquarium keeping and for aquarists who do not (want to) pay meticulous attention to their water values.

Briareum is one of the most adaptable corals in marine aquariums

Moderate to strong currents and strong lighting allow Briareum to grow best - but the coral can also cope with very weak lighting without any problems. Be careful of the relatively strong stinging force! Therefore, position Briareum at a sufficient distance from other corals.

Fast growth of Briareum - advantages and disadvantages

Briareum has the potential to grow very quickly. Some saltwater aquarists use this property to allow it to overgrow overflow boxes or backgrounds, for example, in order to hide them. If you don't want the Briareum to cover parts of your reef structure, place the coral separately from the rest of the structure. For example, on a stone in the sand. This way you can easily control the spread.
