Droplet test - how does it work?

With a drop test, you determine the concentration of a substance based on a comparison measurement with a color scale or a color change. To measure, you first fill a certain amount of your aquarium water into a measuring cuvette and then add a defined amount of different or individual test reagents in a predetermined order. You can then compare the color of the sample with a color scale and determine the concentration. Since the measurement procedure varies slightly from test to test, you should take the manufacturer's instructions into account.

Using a reference solution, you can check the accuracy of your measurements and, if necessary, calculate a factor with which you can correct your measurements.

Which water values ​​are important in marine aquariums?

In addition to salinity and temperature (the importance of which cannot be emphasized enough), the KH value, phosphate and the nitrogen components (ammonium/ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) are particularly important at the beginning. As your aquarium develops, other water values ​​such as calcium, magnesium and trace elements can also become important. In the beginning, with a low coral population, few stony corals and regular water changes, it is completely sufficient to concentrate on the elementary water values ​​(salinity, temperature, KH, phosphate, nitrogen compounds, pH).
