At the beginning, the aquarium was criticized on social media due to its sparse design with reef rock. But we'll show you here why less is more when it comes to scaping a reef in a coral tank and how wonderfully filled an aquarium like this can look after 2 years.
When Tobias shared the first photos and videos of his new saltwater aquarium on his @AquaOwner channels in 2022, a lot of critical comments about his reef setup came pouring in: "...too little rocks...", "...you should also rethink your setup..." or "But it's very little space. My dear man." :)
It's a good thing that Tobias trusted his own scaping experience, because less is often more, especially when it comes to reef scapes. Over time, the AquaOwner reef has grown into a fantastic tropical seawater oasis.
Features of AquaOwners Nyos Opus
The aquarium is a Nyos Opus 300 G2 with a 262 liter tank capacity and a 52 liter technical tank. The main tank measures 90 x 55 x 53 cm.
The technology includes 2x Kessil A360X Tuna Blue, a Deltec Skimmer 400i, the Nyos Viper 2.0 feed pump, 2x Aqua Illumination Nero 3 flow pumps, 150W titanium heater with temperature control, Tunze Osmolator 3 and a dosing system for the supply.
The intake air of the skimmer runs over soda lime to stabilize the pH value at 8.3.
CaribSea Life Rocks were used as rocks, as well as 3 magnetic stones from Reef Art & Design for the back wall. The sand is also from CaribSea (Live Sand).
In the photos, the tank is about 2 - 2.5 years old, except for the one obvious photo, which was taken after a few weeks.
The tank is operated with very little maintenance. Water changes are practically never carried out, mostly just 1-2 times a year when the sump is cleaned. During this process, 10-20 liters are removed and then replaced with fresh salt water.
Tobias uses the All-For-Reef from Tropic Marin as a supply system, accompanied by regular feeding with the AquaOwner Liquid Food .
A sock with activated carbon in the technical tank is replaced every 6-8 weeks. Apart from that, the windows are only cleaned 1-2 times a week - that's it!
