You don't have much time but still don't want to live without a saltwater aquarium? No problem! We'll show you what a particularly low-maintenance reef tank can look like.
The tank presented here is our office aquarium. While we are constantly bustling around the facility to keep everything in tip-top shape, the office aquarium is often neglected: Water values? No idea! Regular weekly water changes? No way!
But we don't have to hide the aquarium. The 300-liter tank is exclusively filled with soft corals and LPS. There is also a pair of Designer Clownfish (Black Snowflake), Banggai Cardinalfish, Orchid Dottyback and Mandarinfish (all aquacultured), as well as various algae snails and a Tuxedo urchin in the tank.
In summary, we spend an average of about 30 minutes a week looking after the office aquarium. The reef hobby can be so easy (and beautiful at the same time)!

The aquarium is illuminated by 3 EcoTech Marine Radion LEDs (2x XR 15W G4 Pro, 1x XR 30W G4 Pro, each with diffuser) and is equipped with a VorTech MP 40 (also EcoTech Marine) flow pump. The tank itself is bead-glued and measures 100 x 60 x 55 cm. A backpack compartment connects to the technical tank below, which is simply equipped with mechanical filtration (filter sock & filter wool), biofilter (Siporax) and a skimmer.
The aquarium is operated as a so-called Bare-Bottom System, which means that we do not use any form of substrate. Bare-Bottom tanks are much easier to maintain. Deposits and detritus can be removed more easily. In addition, stronger flow profiles can be implemented and the aquarium takes on a modern, minimalist look.
The reef structure is made of artificial live rock from the CaribSea brand (original and shapes combined) and is essentially divided into three parts: 2 separate larger structures and a single donut in the foreground. The structure is airy and offers many caves and hiding places for fish.
The reef inhabitants are fed with plankton and food every day and evaporated water is replenished with osmosis water. To ensure supply with calcium and trace elements, we add Tropic Marin All-for-Reef to the tank every day. We do a 30% water change every 6-8 weeks. The water values are only measured sporadically (especially KH and occasionally phosphate).
