Lysmata shrimp from captive breeding – why so expensive?
Breeding shrimp is still very laborious. Seawater shrimp have a long development cycle and must go through several larval stages before they are ready for sale. The main issues in breeding are good nutrition and avoiding cannibalism. A permanent availability of food (preferably enriched with vitamins and fats) is at odds with the requirement of good water quality. All of this is associated with a considerable amount of care. For this reason, bred shrimp are generally more expensive than wild-caught ones.
Lysmata wurdemanni against Aiptasia
In contrast to other aiptasia eaters, Lysmata wurdemanni can be used effectively against the annoying pests in aquariums under 300 liters. We recommend a stock of three animals per 100 liters of water volume. If possible, you should try not to feed the animals extra at the beginning. This increases the likelihood that they will immediately go after aiptasia. Even after the aiptasia have apparently completely disappeared, the animals should remain in the tank, as they do not usually completely eliminate the plague, but only keep it under control. Remember that Lysmata shrimp are not 100% "reef safe". This means that they can also nibble on other cnidarians, such as corals. To avoid this, feed your shrimp more and more specifically.
