More Information

Nyos Reef Cement – Cement glue for reef constructions

With Nyos Reef Cement, you get a reliable reef mortar for your saltwater aquarium. This reef glue is reef-safe, free of harmful substances, and specially developed to connect corals, pillars, overhangs, and entire rock structures in a stable and permanent way. Thanks to its simple handling, it is perfect for creative reefscape ideas.

The cement comes as a powder and is mixed with cold water into a kneadable mass. After just 2 minutes, the cement glue has cured – both above and under water. Its special composition makes it completely harmless for fish and corals, and it is quickly overgrown by coralline algae, blending naturally into the reef.

Tips for Using Reef Mortar

  • Mix about 3 parts reef cement with 1 part cold water in a flexible container.

  • Working time is only about 2 minutes – so mix small amounts and apply quickly.

  • Adding a little citric acid can extend the curing time.

  • For extra-strong constructions, you can add rinsed coral sand – this also creates a more natural look on visible areas.

  • Consistency tip: Aim for a kneadable, pudding-like texture – this ensures good adhesion without dripping.

  • Substrates (glass, ceramic, rock) should be clean, dry, and grease-free for best results.

  • Always wear gloves during use, as dust and fresh mortar can irritate skin and eyes.

After 24 hours, the reef mortar is fully hardened – even underwater.

Designing a Stable Reefscape

A strong reef structure is not only durable, but also functional and visually appealing.

  • Build the reef open and airy, with caves and passages, so fish have hiding spots and corals get enough flow.

  • Use foundation rocks as a base for large structures to ensure stability.

  • Combine different stone shapes – base rocks, shelf rocks, and decorative pieces – for a natural appearance.

  • Fix connections with reef cement and disguise visible joints with coral sand for a seamless look.

  • Make sure the structure is stable and movable before adding corals – the cement glue creates a permanent bond.

Practical Notes

  • This calcium-based reef mortar releases no harmful substances and provides an ideal surface for beneficial organisms.

  • Plan your reefscape in advance for efficient building – airy structures are easier to maintain and more attractive.

  • Test individual joints for stability before fully fixing the entire structure.

With Nyos Reef Cement, you get a reef-safe, reliable reef glue – the perfect solution for building creative, stable, and long-lasting reefscapes in your marine aquarium.
