Zooplankton in larval rearing
The supply of zooplankton is an essential part of the breeding of marine organisms. For very large larvae such as those of the clownfish or Banggai cardinalfish, freshly hatched Artemia or enriched Brachionus can already lead to success as a food source. For other species or higher survival rates, smaller zooplankton such as Parvocalanus are essential.
Parvocalanus crassirostris
The nauplii of Parvocalanus crassirostris are a particularly nutritious food source for fish larvae due to their high content of unsaturated fatty acids. With their small size (< 50 µm) and a soft body without spiny appendages, they are perfect for very small fish mouths (such as those of the larvae of mandarin or surgeonfish).
