This small fish owes its name to the vertical stripes on its body - an unusual pattern that is not often seen in fish. The tiger goby lives and moves close to the bottom and is often found near sponges in nature. In any case, it is a peaceful reef dweller for aquariums of 60 liters or more.

Elacatinus macrodon - a marine fish for aquariums from 60 liters

With a maximum body length of 5 cm, the tiger goby is a good choice for stocking saltwater aquariums with a small volume. We recommend keeping them in aquariums of 60 liters or more. Your reef tank should be covered or have side bars so that the gobies cannot jump out.

Socialization of Elacatinus macrodon

Keeping them together with larger fish is usually no problem. Sometimes the gobies even let other tank inhabitants clean them. Keeping them together with predatory shrimps or crabs should definitely be avoided, as they might like to eat the small gobies. In our experience, Lysmata are not a problem.
