HOW TO STORE CABLES AND POWER SUPPLIES EASILY AND IN A STRUCTURED WAY
A large number of electronic devices are used to operate a saltwater aquarium. Starting with the lighting, through flow, return and dosing pumps to the skimmer - and of course they all need to be supplied with electricity. So that you don't get lost in the tangle of power supplies and cables (and especially don't put them under water), it's a good idea to store them carefully and in a reasonably orderly manner. Below we'll give you important tips on how to deal with the tangle of cables.
#1 The cable tie – your friend and helper
Using cable ties, you can not only bundle cables together, but also guide them along the aquarium shelf. Make sure to create drip loops so that water cannot run along the cable into sockets or electrical devices. Cable ties are also a great way to secure power supplies, controllers and power strips.
Great alternatives to cable ties are resealable Velcro connectors or cable sleeves.
#2 Plastic or light grid plates as a holder
Plastic panels can easily be purchased online in all colors and sizes. Using step drills or hole saws, you can cut holes for cable feedthroughs or for fixing power supplies. This is not necessary for light grid panels, which only need to be cut to the desired size using side cutters.
Always make sure that no water can come into contact with the power supplies or power strips. It is therefore very sensible to install them “overhead”.
#3 Don’t lose perspective
If you don't have a labeling device to hand, you can use colored tape or short pieces of drinking straw to label cables. This way you're guaranteed not to lose track!
