Signs of high nutrient levels
In addition to the measured phosphate and nitrate values, darkened corals or increased algae growth in the tank as well as on the glass indicate elevated nutrient levels. When judging "too high", the ratio of nitrate to phosphate must also be taken into account. Ideally this should be 100:1, for example 5 mg/l nitrate and 0.05 mg/l phosphate. An unfavourable ratio can often have a more negative effect than increased values in the correct ratio. Therefore, always assess the nutrient values in relation to each other and in connection with the appearance and behaviour of your animals in the aquarium.

Recommendation for use Elimi-Phos Rapid
Even if your phosphate level is extremely high, do not lower it more than 0.1 mg/l per day. Too rapid changes could otherwise do more harm than good to your corals. 10 ml Elimi-Phos Rapid precipitates 1 mg/l phosphate per 100 liters aquarium water. Therefore dose a maximum of 1 ml of the solution per 100 liters. Always add Elimi-Phos Rapid before or in the skimmer or before the flow filter to remove the precipitated lanthanum phosphate completely from your aquarium. The KH-value can decrease more during the application and should be controlled more often. From a phosphate value of 0.1 mg/l we recommend a further reduction with a carbon dosage like NP-Bacto-Balance.

Alternatively a continuous low dosage of Elimi-Phos Rapid is possible to stabilize the phosphate value. For this purpose the solution can be easily diluted with osmosis water and thus added in low concentration via a dosing pump.

Avoid lowering your phosphate value to 0 mg/l. Ideal for a reef tank are phosphate values between 0.03 mg/l and 0.08 mg/l.

Elimi-Phos Rapid against flatworms
A positive side effect of Elimi-Phos Rapid: many reef hobbyists have experienced that the solution helps against flatworms of the genera Waminoa, Concolutriloba and possibly also Acropora flatworms. For this application, keep in mind that 1. your phosphate value is elevated, so that it does not come to a limitation, 2. you provide for a sufficient oxygen supply and 3. you siphon off as many flatworms as possible in advance, since toxins can be released by their death (filtration via activated carbon is also useful in this case).
